Bradley’s Story

Bradley came into our life on 12/13/2010 after we rescued him from the Monmouth County SPCA. His name was Brad “Pitt” and I remember it so clearly walking by his bed and him just laying there all calm just looking up at Dave and I. Dave pointed him right out, but I wasn’t so sure I wanted a dog that big- we originally went there for a beagle- HA.

After walking around a few times, we asked to see Brad and a puppy. The puppy came in first and was so cute but was biting everything (it is a puppy! ha) and the woman said he would probably be even bigger then Brad. So she brought Brad in and I fell in love instantly. He was playing and jumping around and I remember him just laying his body against my legs and I said to Dave- I want him! Unfortunately, we do not know his whole background or his exact birthday- which is to be expected when you rescue a dog. He does have scars up and down his front arms and his head. They found him on a street in NY and a blessing to us, the SPCA up there was overflowing so B got sent down to NJ. We did ask the vet what she thought and she said she thought it was used as a bait dog…but of course we do not know the whole story. And we do not want to.

The woman asked if we wanted to go out and buy everything we needed and pick him up the next day…NO. I want him now! 🙂 So we filled out all of the paperwork, paid our little fee and got in the car.

Now, this quite, calm dog- was now on my lap in the front seat LOVING life. Hmm….I have a feeling this little guy was acting to catch our attention and it worked.

how handsome is he? That was his little bed he was on when we met him.

Cookie?! I found this pictures on the SPCA's facebook a few months after we took him home.

We decided to name him Bradley because we weren’t a huge fan of just Brad for a dog plus our first apartment together was in Bradley Beach! We went straight to my parents to introduce him where he peed all over their kitchen floor….whoops. My dad fell in love with him but it did take my mom a little longer. He is a terrier mix and my family never had a dog growing up, so it only makes sense we were all nervous around him.

We finally got home and while Dave showed Bradley around his new house, I ran out to PetSmart and filled a cart with toys, food, treats, a bed, and a crate. Neither of us have ever had a dog so we were going in this blindly!

B’s first picture at home: Right before he peed all over the carpet in front of the Christmas Tree.
